Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition concerning the citizenship of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The court stated that a similar petition had already been settled.

Karnataka-based petitioner S Vignesh Shishir had filed a new petition, claiming to present "new evidence" in the matter. He also requested the court to restrict Rahul Gandhi from any foreign travel while the petition was under consideration.

The division bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Shri Prakash Singh permitted the petitioner to withdraw his petition. In its order, the court stated that since a similar petition was disposed of on May 5th, the petitioner could file a review petition against that order.

The court also reminded the petitioner's lawyer that the issue of citizenship could be raised within the provisions related to election petitions under Section 101 of the Representation of the People Act.

The court commented, "We cannot grant the petitioner the liberty to file a separate petition as per law, especially when a coordinate bench has already passed a detailed order." The court dismissed the petition, granting the petitioner the liberty to file a review petition against the previously settled matter.
