Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government has received a proposal from the Stamp and Registration Department to grant a 1% stamp duty concession on property registrations in women’s names, extending the benefit from property worth ₹10 lakh to ₹1 crore. The aim, officials claim, is to bolster financial independence and formal property ownership among women across Uttar Pradesh.
While the move has drawn appreciation from some quarters, social observers suggest that such concessions often remain symbolic unless backed by ground-level support and awareness, especially in patriarchal rural settings.
Women’s rights activists Vanshika Ahuja and Isha Shukla called the proposal “promising” but cautioned that implementation gaps often limit impact. “Empowerment on paper must translate into access and autonomy,” Ahuja said.

This proposal follows CM Yogi's public emphasis on Mission Shakti and other schemes aimed at uplifting women. However, with growing concerns about women’s real access to land and legal systems, observers argue that structural changes not just financial waivers are necessary for lasting empowerment. The government has yet to confirm when or if the proposal will be enacted.
