The UP govt has sanctioned `6,124 crore for 62 road infrastructure projects in the 2025-26 fiscal year, focusing on congestion relief in urban areas. The Public Works Department will construct ring roads, bypasses and flyovers, prioritizing Nagar Palikas and Nagar Parishads with populations exceeding one lakh.

The blueprint excludes municipalities where national highways pass through, as these fall under the National Highways Authority of India's jurisdiction. Project selection will consider both population density and traffic volume data, with local bodies required to submit formal proposals for consideration.

This infrastructure push aligns with the state's economic development goals, particularly for industrial zones requiring improved freight mobility. The PWD's plan specifically targets chronic traffic bottlenecks in semi-urban corridors, though detailed project timelines and tender processes remain undisclosed.

The allocation follows the state's ongoing expressway expansion program, representing a shift toward intracity connectivity solutions.

Municipal authorities will need to coordinate land acquisition and utility relocation, historically challenging phases for such projects in Uttar Pradesh.
