Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday reviewed the performance of the Labour and Employment Department, underlining the need to strike a balance between labour welfare and industrial expansion. "Labourers and industrialists are not adversaries they complement each other," the CM said, calling for labour laws that are both industry friendly and protective of workers' rights.

He directed officials to simplify compliance procedures while ensuring dignity and minimum wages for workers, particularly those in the unorganised sector.

The CM also stressed the transformation of 'labour addas' into full-service hubs with dormitories, meals, sanitation, and training facilities suggesting even ₹5–10 meals should be made available.

Subtle concern emerged over the limited reach of schemes, with the CM acknowledging the need for stronger implementation of insurance, health services (including linking ESIC/CSIC with private hospitals), and rehabilitation for child labourers via Bal Seva Yojana.

While the state boasts a 99% surge in registered factories since 2016, the gap between industrial growth and on-ground labour welfare remains a critical axis of future policy.
