Prayagraj (UP): A stampede-like situation at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj has left several people feared dead, with at least 15 bodies reportedly brought to the hospital, according to reports. However, the exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed by officials. Many injured individuals have been shifted to Motilal Nehru Medical College for urgent medical care.
The incident occurred at around 2 am as massive crowds thronged the ghats of Triveni Sangam for the Amrit Snan on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. An estimated 80 to 100 million devotees are expected to gather there today, causing severe overcrowding at the sacred site. Despite security arrangements, the surge of pilgrims led to chaos, overwhelming the administration's efforts to manage the crowd.

Rescue operations are in full swing, with the Rapid Action Force (RAF) deployed to control the situation. Authorities are working tirelessly to manage the influx of devotees and prevent further incidents. Ambulances have been dispatched to the scene, and the injured have been rushed to the central hospital within the Mela grounds. Reports indicate that several of those injured were brought in dead, although official confirmation is still pending.
PM Modi Speaks To UP CM Yogi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding the situation, urging immediate rescue and relief measures. The administration is making all efforts to restore order and ensure the safety of pilgrims.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath following a stampede-like situation at the Sangam during the Mauni Amavasya celebrations at the Maha Kumbh Mela. He also assured him of full support from the Centre.
Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya Ji's Appeal To Devotees
Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya Ji has appealed to devotees to avoid heading towards Sangam Ghat until the situation is under control. "I request all devotees to remain in their camps and prioritize their safety. Due to the immense crowd, it is not necessary to take a dip at the Sangam Ghat at this moment," he stated in a video message.
As the administration scrambles to contain the situation, the official death toll remains unverified. However, reports suggest that the chaos has resulted in multiple casualties. With Mauni Amavasya marking the second Shahi Snan of the Mahakumbh, the sheer volume of pilgrims has stretched resources to the limit.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging devotees to exercise caution while rescue teams work tirelessly to bring the situation under control.
