As COVID-19 concerns re-emerge across Asia, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has issued a strong caution to the government over its handling of the situation. Referring to the growing number of infections, he urged authorities not to repeat the lapses and mismanagement witnessed during the previous waves, especially the second wave that proved catastrophic.
Posting on social media platform X, Yadav stressed the importance of timely response, suggesting that the government must act before the warning signs turn into a full-blown crisis. “Let this not become a repeat of the past,” he remarked, warning that government delays and administrative lapses in the previous wave had already cost too many lives.
He also cast doubts on the effectiveness of the much-hyped COVID vaccines distributed in earlier phases. According to him, the certificates were celebrated more than the actual results, which ultimately did not meet expectations.
“Even the vaccine has now proven ineffective,” he wrote.
While acknowledging that the present situation is not yet critical, he emphasized that coronavirus tends to return in new forms and should not be underestimated. Yadav urged the government to make better use of the health and information systems already in place and avoid creating panic, but not at the cost of preparedness.
His comments come as international alerts rise over new COVID subvariants, and experts call for precautionary action.
