Shillong: In a significant development in the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, a Shillong court has granted bail to two co-accused, Lokendra Singh Tomar and Balbir Ahirwar. The two men, previously arrested for their alleged role in the killing, were released on bail under strict but undisclosed conditions.
According to a report by India Today, the defence argued that both Tomar and Ahirwar had fully cooperated with investigators and were not directly involved in the actual act of murder. This, reportedly, played a crucial role in the court’s decision to release them.
While law enforcement officials have not yet commented publicly on the bail order, the move has sparked fresh debate over how the case will proceed and whether the investigation's momentum will be affected.
Victim’s family demands speedier justice
The murder of 29-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi had shocked the region and captured public attention due to its gruesome details and dramatic turns. His family has restated their demand for a speedy trial and strict punishment for everyone involved, expressing concern over any potential delays following the latest bail order.
The primary accused in the case, believed to be Raja's wife Sonam, remains in custody following her surprise surrender on June 9 at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.
How a honeymoon turned into a nightmare
Raja and Sonam had tied the knot on May 10 in Indore and travelled to Shillong for their honeymoon. On May 21, they rented a scooter to explore the scenic Sohra region but mysteriously went missing the following day.
After nearly two weeks of search efforts, Raja’s decomposed body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Cherrapunji. His body bore multiple sharp injuries and two fatal head wounds.
The investigation in the case is currently ongoing.
