'Save Waqf Campaign' Public Protests Suspended Until May 16 Amid Border Tensions: AIMPLB

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board said on Friday that public meetings and events being held as part of its 'Save Waqf Campaign' have been postponed for the week, until May 16. The decision was taken in light of the situation on the India-Pakistan border.

The decision was made at an online meeting. The organisation said it will continue its indoor programmes, such as roundtable meetings with citizens, interfaith dialogues, sermons in mosques, submission of memorandums to District Magistrates and Collectors, and press conferences.

The organisation added that it supports every necessary step taken for the defence and protection of the nation and its people and emphasised that in these critical times, the public, political parties, armed forces, and the government must come together to face these threats.

The statement, signed by Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, president, AIMPLB, Maulana Obaidullah Khan Azmi, Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salafi, vice presidents, and others, said that the organisation views the increasing tension on the India-Pakistan border with great concern. 

Terrorism and the killing of innocent civilians are a grave concern. There is no place for terrorism in Islamic teachings, globally recognised principles and human values. Therefore, countries should resolve their matters through bilateral dialogues and discussions. It is also a fact that war is not a solution to any issue, especially in the presence of nuclear weapons. India and Pakistan cannot afford a war, the organisation added.
