Saurabh Bhardwaj Replaces Gopal Rai As Delhi AAP Convenor After Assembly Poll Debacle, Manish Sisodia Made In-Charge For Punjab

Saurabh Bhardwaj has been appointed as the AAP's convenor in Delhi. He will replace Gopal Rai.

New Delhi: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj has been appointed as the party's convenor in Delhi. Bhardwaj will replace Gopal Rai. The decision was taken in the AAP's Political Affairs Committee meeting at its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Friday, March 21. The development came almost a month after the AAP lost the Delhi Assembly Elections.

Mahraj Malik is appointed as chief of the party's Jammu and Kashmir unit. The announcement in this regard was made by party's general secretary Sandeep Pathak.

In the AAP's PAC, the decision was also taken on the names of party in-charges in four states. Manish Sisodia was appointed as AAP's in-charge for Punjab. Rai was made in-charge of Gujarat, while Pankaj Gupta will lead the party in Goa. Pathak, a Rajya Sabha MP, has been named in-charge of the AAP's Chhattisgarh unit.

The meeting also discussed the "unfulfilled" promises made by the BJP in Delhi, including giving monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 and free LPG cylinders to women, Pathak said.

In the recently concluded assembly polls i Delhi, the AAP managed to bag only 22 seats out of 70. Meanwhile, the BJP won with a thumping majority. The saffron party secured 48 seats. Most of the prominent AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Sisodia, Bhardwaj, lost their seats.
