Resist 'One Nation, One Election' As It Will Lead To 'Totalitarianism': TN CM Stalin
One Nation One Election bill was to be presented in Lok Sabha on Monday (December 16) but will now be tabled on Tuesday. The proposal has seen its fair share of supporters as well as opponents. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has now weighed in.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday (December 16) appealed everyone to oppose 'One Nation, One Election' proposal being backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Stalin said that 'One Nation, One Election' will lead to 'unitary' form of government and will lead to 'totalitarianism' in the country. He slammed BJP for what he called was a 'brazen attempt' to deflect attention from from its own failures. He appealed to democratic forces to fight "tooth and nail" against One Nation One Election.
The ruling BJP is keen to introduce the bill to enable simultaneous national and state elections through 'One Nation One Election' provision.
The bill was to be introduced in Lok Sabha on Monday (December 16) but the ruling dispensation has decided to introduce it on Tuesday.
Supporters of One Nation One Election point to the fact that elections are take place in some part of India at almost any point in time. This, they say, leads to huge expenses which can otherwise be averted.
Opponents of One Nation One Election say that the proposal goes against the federal structure of the country and concept of decentralisation of power.
The Congress and several parties in the opposition have made their displeasure about One Nation One Election clear on number of occasions in past.
