Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central leader and MP Ravishankar Prasad on Thursday had declared BJP Rajya Sabha MP and chief spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya as the next Bengal party chief.

Addressing the gathering during a felicitation programme at Science City, Kolkata, Bhattacharya said, “Our only aim is to oust Trinamool Congress (TMC) from the state and we will fight unitedly to achieve our aim. BJP has gone through several odds to make its mark. In Bengal as well BJP has gone through several thick and thin to become prominent.”

Speaking about the party's new and old members' conflict, Bhattacharya mentioned that the party will not grow if the new members are not added to the camp.

“BJP is not against the minorities. We just want to take away the stones and swords from the hands of those boys from the minority community and give them books and pens. We want peace during both Durga Puja immersion and Muharram. The appeasement politics of TMC is taking away lives mostly belonging from the minority community,” further mentioned the newly appointed BJP West Bengal president.

Notably. Bhattacharya, the 11 th president of the state BJP will lead the saffron camp in the crucial 2026 state Legislative Assembly elections.

Speculation started as former BJP state president and former MP Dilip Ghosh was not invited at the felicitation programme. Adding to the speculation, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari didn’t take Ghosh’s name during his speech.

However, while speaking at the event former state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar took Ghosh’s name and also mentioned that the post of the state president is ‘temporary’ as baton keeps on passing to others.
