Rajasthan Floods: Heavy Rains Batter State, Orange Alert For 6 Districts, 23 Dead So Far; Visuals Of Severe Waterlogging Go Viral

Rajasthan: A powerful weather system originating from the Bay of Bengal has swept into Rajasthan, triggering widespread heavy rainfall and flooding across multiple districts. The downpour, which began Friday, continued through Saturday morning, majorly impacting daily life and resulting in several casualties.

Districts including Bundi, Ajmer, Rajsamand, Pali, Kota, Pratapgarh, Jodhpur, and Dholpur recorded heavy rainfall on Friday. Jaipur also witnessed consistent rain beginning Friday evening, continuing into Saturday with intermittent showers and strong winds. Waterlogging and traffic disruptions were reported across major cities, especially in low-lying areas.

Visuals Of Waterlogging Surface

Several visuals have surfaced on the internet showing inundated streets with vehicles stuck amid floods. A video from Ajmer’s Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah went viral late Friday night, showing torrential rainwater flooding the narrow lanes and sweeping away vendor carts. A man can be seen being swept away in the floodwater.

Orange Alert For 6 Districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for six districts, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Ajmer, Sirohi and Jalore, warning of heavy to very heavy rain. A yellow alert remains in place for eight additional districts. In response to the worsening weather, schools were declared closed on Saturday in Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, Ajmer, Bundi and Rajsamand.

In Pali, rain continued throughout the night, and in Tonk, rivers and streams overflowed, prompting the release of water from three gates of the Kota Barrage.

23 Dead So Far Due To Torrential Rainfall

Tragically, the rains have also led to multiple fatalities. In Rajsamand, seven people, including three school children, were swept away after a pond breached. In Jodhpur's Arna-Jharna area, a young man died due to drowning. A 13-year-old child in Sikar also lost his life in a similar incident. In total, 23 people have died in rain-related incidents across Rajasthan over the past four days, reported Dainik Bhaskar.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, the system will continue to impact parts of the Jodhpur division, with districts like Jodhpur, Pali and Nagaur expected to experience more heavy rain today.
