Chandigarh: Punjab police has asked the dating App Tinder about an account suspected to be linked to Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, who has been booked in the case of murder of a Sikh activist.

A radical preacher, Amritpal Singh, is currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under National Security Act (NSA).

According to information, the query put to Tinder is in connection with the investigation being carried out by Faridkot district police into the murder case of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, who was shot dead on October 9, last year, while returning home from village gurdwara on his motorcycle.

He was a member of radical outfit ``Waris Punjab De’’ (WPD), which is headed by Amritpal Singh. Pertinently, Punjab director general of police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav had also said after the murder last year that Nau was killed allegedly at the behest of Amritpal Singh.

The police also held that while the notorious gangster Arshdeep alias Arsh Dalla, was behind the killing, it had also nabbed two shooters of his gang.

According to media reports, the Punjab police in its communication to Tinder, said that ``on 09-10-2024, Gurpreet Singh, a well-known online activist, was shot dead by two assailants on a motorcycle. The deceased managed a Facebook page `Hari Nau Talks’ and had been outspoken against the Sikh radical Amritpal Singh. Shooters have been apprehended and are under investigation’’.

The police further held that during its investigation, it had identified a Tinder account under the name `Amrit Sandhu’ which was suspected to be linked with Amritpal Singh, accused in the case.

Seeking the subscriber details, phone number, location and IP address logs since January 1, 2019, the police has also asked Tinder for information on all linked e-mail IDs and phone numbers, photographs and media files, friends/contacts lists and mutual matches, chat history and messages exchanged.

For record, Amritpal, 32, a pro-Khalistan radical Sikh leader, has been in jail since April, 2023 after he was booked for leading a large number of his supporters to Amritsar’s Ajnala police station on February 23, 2023, vandalising it and injuring several police personnel for the release of one of his supporters.
