Chandigarh: Radical Sikh leader and Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal’s uncle Harjit Singh, was sent back to Bathinda jail after he refused to undergo treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, late Saturday night.

It may be recalled that Harjit is one of the four aides of Amritpal currently lodged at Bathinda Central jail after they were shifted from Dibrugarh Jail earlier this year following the end of their detention under National Security Act (NSA). The other three detainees are Bhagwant Singh alias Pardhanmantri Bajeke, Kulwant Singh and Basant Singh.

According to information, Harjit Singh, 54, who is said to have been on a hunger strike for the past about a fortnight, demanded physical meetings with visitors instead of via telephone from behind a glass partition at the Bathinda jail.

He has also been demanding permission to talk to his family members in Canada over the phone and to be allowed to sleep on a mattress on the floor.

Harjit Singh was taken to AIIMS late Saturday night after his condition reportedly deteriorated because of hunger strike but was discharged after a medical examination after about an hour even as he also refused to undergo treatment.
