Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Saturday wrote to the Election Commission of India demanding action against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia over a viral video in which the latter allegedly advocates winning 2027 elections "by hook or by crook".

Jakhar held that on the eve of Independence Day, Sisodia, the AAP in-charge for Punjab, delivered a speech at a gathering where he allegedly mentioned using 'Saam’, `Daam, `Dand, `Bhed, `Sach-Jhooth, `Sawaal-Jawaab, `Ladai-Jhagda' to win the 2027 Punjab assembly elections.

Jakhar said - "Saam’’ refers to the misuse of government machinery to pressure or coerce voters, "Daam’’ indicates the use of money, bribery to buy votes, "Dand’’ warns of punishment and threats against those who refuse to support the AAP, "Bhed’’ points to a dangerous plan to create communal, caste-based, or social divisions to disrupt peace, "Sach, Jhooth’’, suggest the deliberate use of lies, propaganda, and misinformation to mislead voters, "Sawaal, Jawaab’’, the potential to twist facts and confuse voters during public discourse and "Ladai, Jhagda’’, directly promote violence.

Jakhar said these statements provide evidence of a clear intent to engage in corrupt practices, intimidate voters, incite hostility, and disturb public peace. Jakhar said these acts constitute serious offences under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

INCITING FRATERNAL BLOODSHED: SUKHBIR

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal also appealed to the EC to take action against former Delhi deputy chief minister Sisodia for, what he alleged, trying to incite fraternal bloodshed in Punjab even as he called for cancellation of the bail granted to Sisodia in a corruption case in view of the provocative utterances made by the latter recently.

Referring to a recent clip of Manish Sisodia which is in the public realm and which encourages AAP workers to indulge in lies, false promises, illegal gratification of voters and even violence to win the 2027 assembly elections, he alleged this was proof that AAP was going to vitiate the atmosphere of the state unless the Election Commissioner took firm action against it.
