In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread outrage, security guards at Surat's Sardar Market were caught on camera brutally assaulting a woman and her minor daughter. The disturbing footage, which has gone viral across social media platforms, shows the guards beating the victims as onlookers failed to intervene.
The video, shared by X user Nikhil Chavda, depicts a horrific scene where a half-naked man can be seen dragging a minor girl by her hair and kicking her in the stomach despite her pleas for mercy. Another guard is shown dragging a woman by her hair and beating her with a thick stick in full public view. Chavda captioned the video: "Surat: Women are being beaten like animals outside Sardar Market on allegations of vegetable theft."
According to Article 19 India, the mother and daughter were reportedly picking discarded vegetables from the wholesale market for their home consumption when they were confronted by the guards. The security personnel allegedly snatched the collected vegetables before launching their brutal assault.

According to reports, the guards were acting on instructions from vegetable sellers who typically sell these sorted-out vegetables at lower prices to restaurants and roadside eateries, and therefore did not want others collecting them.
Following public backlash after the video went viral, a complaint was filed at Puna Police Station against the two security guards, identified as Anil Tiwari and Adityasingh Rajeshsingh, who were later arrested.
