Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting on Tuesday with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of all armed forces.
The meeting precedes the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
Earlier today, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan convened a high-level meeting review the internal security situation and assess the evolving threat perception.
The meeting was attended by key security leaders, including Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) Daljit Singh Chaudhary, Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG) Brighu Srinivasan, and Director General of the Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, reported IANS.
In the meeting, discussion on topics such as tightening border security, enhancing counter-terror capabilities, and coordinating intelligence sharing across forces took place.
After the first CCS meeting, India announced tough measures against Pakistan, including halting the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari border crossing, revoking visas for Pakistani citizens, blocking numerous Pakistani YouTube channels and X accounts, and reducing diplomatic relations by decreasing embassy personnel on both sides, effectively requiring staff to return to their home countries.
These decisive steps follow the tragic April 22 attack in Pahalgam's Baisaran valley, where 26 individuals, including one Nepali citizen, lost their lives while vacationing in the scenic meadows. The devastating incident has profoundly affected both India and the international community.
