Behrampur: A shocking incident surfaced from Odisha's Behrampur district, where a 35-year-old man was allegedly killed by the locals of Malasapadar village on the suspicion of practising witchcraft. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Mohana Police Station on Saturday.

The villagers allegedly throttled the man to death, cut off his private part and dumped the body in the nearby Harabhangi Dam, reported PTI. The body was recovered on Sunday morning.

A total of 14 people were detained in connection with the killing, Sub-divisional police officer of G Udayagiri, Suresh Chandra Tripathy said. As per the report, the villagers have suspected that a middle-aged woman died about a fortnight ago because of the black magic of the man. The deceased has been identified as Gopal.

The man had left the village along with his family members. Gopal went to his father-in-law's place in Ganjam district, asking his sister-in-law to take care of his cattle and goats, Tripathy said.

On Saturday, Gopal returned to his village to take his domestic animals when he was abducted and killed. His body was sent for postmortem. A detailed investigation has been launched by the police.

Bihar 'Witchcraft' Murders:

Last month, a similar incident surfaced from Bihar Purnia district, where five members of a family were burned alive on suspicion of practising witchcraft. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the murders, which reportedly occurred in Tetma village.

The crime followed accusations of black magic after the recent death of a child in the village. According to reports, villagers collectively transported all five bodies one kilometre from the crime scene and buried them using a JCB machine. A teenage boy from the family managed to escape and alerted police to the crime
