Earlier in the day, shortly after India carried out military strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Trump expressed hope that the hostilities would end “very quickly.”
“It’s a shame,” he said, adding, “We heard about it just as we were walking into the Oval Office. I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past.”
“They’ve been fighting for a long time many, many decades and centuries, actually, if you really think about it,” Trump remarked.
Asked if he had any message for the countries, he said, “No, I just hope it ends very quickly.”
The US State Department also acknowledged the situation but refrained from offering an immediate assessment. In a statement to ANI, a spokesperson said, “We are aware of the reports; however, we have no assessment to offer at this time. This remains an evolving situation, and we are closely monitoring developments.”
At midnight on May 7, India's Ministry of Defence, confirmed the launch of Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. “Our actions have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted,” the ministry stated, adding that the strikes were in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.
