Naina's Rescue: How A Stranded Dog On Hyderabad’s Busiest Flyover United A City In Compassion & Responsibility

It all began when volunteers from the Manikonda Animal Rescue Group (MARG) spotted the dog, visibly scared and soaked, pacing aimlessly on the flyover. They quickly realized the dog may not have strayed onto the flyover. The dog, later named Naina, appeared neutered an indicator she may have been abandoned deliberately in the middle of the long stretch.

On one of Hyderabad’s longest and busiest flyovers, a small, terrified black dog spent nearly five days stranded drenched in relentless rain, without food or water, and with death a heartbeat away from the roaring traffic speeding past at over 60-80 kmph. The Shaikpet flyover, known for its heavy vehicular movement and zero pedestrian access, became both a trap and a test of humanity.

MARG volunteers attempted to coax Naina off the flyover and down to safety, but every effort proved futile. The moment she was guided off, she would return to the very same dangerous spot almost as if she was waiting for someone who was never coming back.

She was terrified, shivering and completely traumatized. Every time someone approached, she bolted not towards safety, but back into danger.

Naina's presence on the flyover was not just a danger to herself, but also to human lives. Black-coated and nearly invisible during the night and under pouring rains, she posed a massive risk to drivers and riders who could have swerved to avoid her leading to potentially fatal pileups on the flyover.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, MARG reached out to two of Hyderabad’s most experienced animal rescue organizations: Everything Pawzible and Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWCS). What followed was one of the most coordinated and complex rescue efforts the city has seen.

Responding instantly, the team from Everything Pawzible contacted the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), requesting immediate police support to control and slow down traffic—critical to ensure both rescuers' safety and the dog's survival. Simultaneously, Animal Warriors moved in with a trap cage, rescue nets, and trained personnel.

The rescue operation unfolded over three rain-soaked days and nights, amid roaring engines, slippery roads, and unrelenting coordination between MARG, Everything Pawzible, Animal Warriors, the Raidurgam Traffic Police, and SCSC. Hundreds of calls were exchanged, plans revised in real-time, and hearts tested by the limits of exhaustion and hope.

And finally, on Independence Day, 15th August 2025, Naina was safely rescued at 1.30 am.

“Naina had lost sight of her way and home, but in saving her, we found direction,”. “On a day that symbolizes freedom, Naina, with her beautifully soulful and hopeful eyes, reminded us of what it truly means to fight for life—human and animal alike and to never give up”. Naina too bravely endured everything and never lost hope.

Naina's rescue was more than just an act of saving a life. It was a powerful symbol of unity, resilience, and empathy. A reminder that Everything Becomes Possible when we work together not just for ourselves, but for every living being we share this planet with.

As Naina now recovers in safe hands with volunteers of Everything Pawzible, Hyderabad celebrates not just a rescue, but a revelation that in compassion and unity lies true independence.
