Gujarat: A shocking video showing a man attending Gujarat High Court proceedings via video conferencing while seated on a toilet and apparently relieving himself has gone on social media. The incident occurred during a hearing on June 20, according to Bar and Bench website.

The man, who logged into the Zoom meeting with the username "Samad Battery," appeared before Justice Nirzar S. Desai of the Gujarat High Court. The video shows him sitting on a toilet seat wearing Bluetooth neckband earphones. The video then shows him placing his phone at a distance, which gave a wide angle view and revealed that he is sitting on a toilet seat.

He is later seen cleaning himself before moving to another room.

The court was hearing a matter related to a cheque bounce case, in which Samad was reportedly the complainant in the criminal proceedings and was appearing as a respondent in a petition seeking the quashing of a First Information Report (FIR).

The viral video has sparked strong reactions from internet users. Rohit Gupta, a law student according to his profile, demanded strict punishment for the man involved. "Only lawyers should be allowed to appear via video conferencing. If a client wishes to join, it must be from the lawyer’s chamber. Such incidents bring global shame. Imagine the audacity—this must be punished strictly," read a post on X.

Another user shared a light-hearted comment, saying, "Contempt of court in the highest odour—I mean, order."

Another user also slammed the man and suggested a punishment, saying, "How disgusting! These types of people don’t respect the court. He should be punished by being made to clean the court toilets for 10 days for this shameful act."

However, this is not the first instance of someone attending court proceedings from a toilet. In March, the Gujarat High Court levied a fine of ₹2 lakh and sentenced a man to community service for joining court proceedings from a lavatory.
