Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has quashed criminal proceedings in a gangrape and robbery case, which was pending in the trial court, after both parties reached a settlement. The court imposed a fine of ₹2,000 each on the victim and the accused.
Justice Dr. Gautam Chaudhari's bench, while ruling on a petition filed by Munish and two others from Badaun, made strong observations regarding the misuse of legal processes. The court stated that "law is a means of justice, not a weapon for conspiracies."
It noted that it has become a common practice for individuals to file cases to settle scores with opponents and then retract their statements later. Therefore, the court cannot remain a silent spectator to such practices.
