Thiruvananthapuram: A woman from Kerala's Kollam was found dead in her flat in the United Arab Emirates. The family of the deceased woman alleged harassment over dowry by her husband. The Kollam Police in Kerala have registered a case of murder under the Dowry Prohibition Act against Athulya's husband, reported News18.
As per the woman's family, her husband physically and mentally tortured her over the dowry. Athulya's body was found on July 19 in her flat in the UAE. Athulya's mother filed a complaint alleging that her daughter was physically and mentally assaulted by the accused.

In the complaint, the deceased's mother said that the deceased's husband, Satheesh, was not happy with the dowry he got during the marriage, reported the media house. The couple got married in 2014. Satheesh is also a native of Kollam.
As per the FIR filed in the case, Athulya's parents had given her a two-wheeler and gold as dowry. The deceased's mother also claimed that Athulya was kicked in the stomach, strangled and even hit by a plate in the head, which resulted in her death.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, against Satheesh. Athulya's father called the death of her daughter "mysterious".
"I don’t believe that my daughter will die by suicide. She shares a very intimate relationship with her daughter. Her death is mysterious," the deceased father said as quoted by the media house.
