Kolkata: A protesting jobless teacher Subal Soren died on Independence Day amid ongoing protests by the jobless teachers.

According to the hospital sources Soren had died of brain stroke.

According to Soren’s wife, Sandhya Soren, her husband fell ill on August 11 following which he was hospitalized at Debra hospital in West Midnapore and then was shifted to a private hospital in Kolkata and after four days of treatment Soren died on August 15.

“He was the sole bread earner of the family. He was completely mentally disturbed after he lost his job and used to continuously lament over the issue. What will happen to us now?” questioned Soren’s wife.

Soren is survived by his elderly parents, wife and a child.

Protests erupted as the other protesting teachers of Eligible Jobless Teachers Forum as they claimed that the body was being taken from the hospital even without informing the family members.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari however, blamed the state government for the death.

“Soren was suffering from hypertension ever since he had lost the job. The state government should agree that they are responsible for the death of Soren,” added Adhikari.
