New Delhi: In a shocking incident, Congress MP from Mayiladuthurai, R Sudha, was allegedly robbed of her gold chain in Delhi on Monday morning. The incident took place near the Polish Embassy in the Chanakyapuri area. Sudha wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah narrating her ordeal.

The MP has been staying at Tamil Nadu House for the past one year. Sudha also suffered injuries on her neck, while he clothes also got torn. The chain was weighing more than 4 sovereigns.

"On August 04, 2025 (Monday), I and another woman Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, Ms. Rajathi stepped out of Tamil Nadu for walking. At around 6.15am-6.20am, when we were near the Poland Embassy's Gate-3 and Gate-4, a man wearing a full helmet and thereby covering his face entirely and riding a Scooty approached us from the opposite direction and snatched my gold-chain and fled," Sudha wrote in the letter.

R Sudha's Letter:

"Sir, since he was coming slowly in the opposite direction I did not suspect he could be a chain-snatcher. As he pulled the chain from my neck, I have suffered injuries on my neck, and my churidhar also got torn in the impact. I somehow managed not to fall, and both of us cried for help," she added.

The Congress and her accomplice later spotted a mobile patrol vehicle of Delhi police and complained to them. "We were advised to give a complaint in writing and approach the jurisdictional police station for the purpose," she wrote.

"Sir, this blatant attack on a woman, who is a Member of the Parliament, in a high-security zone like Chanakyapuri which is full of embassies and protected institutions, is highly shocking to say the least. If a woman cannot walk safely in this high-priority zone in the national capital of India, where else can we feel safe and do our routine without fearing for our limbs, lives and valuables," Sudha stated in the letter.

The Rajya Sabha MP said that she was traumatised by the incident. "Sir, I have suffered injury on my neck, lost my gold chain weighing more than 4 sovereigns, and I am highly traumatised by this criminal attack. 1, therefore, request your good self to direct the authorities concerned to ensure that the culprit is tracked down with the help of umpteen CCTV cameras in this 'high-security' zone, and arrested. Kindly ensure my gold chain is restored and justice rendered to me expeditiously," she added.
