Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated two academies in North Guwahati's Kamrup district on Saturday. There is one cricket academy and a football academy which are set up by Assam Cricket Association and Guwahati Town Club.

Guwahati, August 16: Assam Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday tried his hand at cricket during the inauguration of sports academies in North Guwahati. The video of Himanta playing a cover drive during the event was shared by the CM on his official social media account.

Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his official X account and said, "What does a cricket fan do when there's no matches? Well he plays a few shots himself. How's the shot." He also shared the video of himself trying his hand at the game. He can be seen in the video wearing gloves and coming on to the pitch.

One of the people present at the spot hands over a cricket bat to the Assam Chief Minister. Himanta then takes the stance and waits for the ball. He then plays a cover drive as bowler bowls the ball. The crowd present at the spot cheers loudly for him after he played the shot. Himanta then returns the bat to the person who gave it to him and then leaves the spot.

As per reports from ANI, Himanta Biswa-led Assam Government alloted around 40 bighas land at Uttar Fulung which falls under the North Guwahati Revenue Circle.

Assam CM said that the academies will help to produce national level cricketers and footballers in the near future.
