Raipur: In a heartwarming incident, a baby elephant was rescued from a pit by forest department staff and locals in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh. The rescue operation, which took place on June 3, was captured on camera and its video went viral on social media.
As per reports, the baby elephant had fallen into a pit near Chilkaguda village. According to a report published in NDTV, The calf was part of a large herd roaming the Lailunga and Gharghoda forest ranges and got trapped when the herd was drinking and bathing in the area.

Forest officials were informed as the baby elephant was struggling to come out of the pit. Without wasting any time, villagers immediately rushed to the area and started putting in efforts to rescue the calf.
They used shovels to flatten the edges with JCB machines to create a path for the calf to move, reported NDTV. The baby elephant was finally rescued by the villagers and the forest officials with the help of a JCB machine.
How The Animal Reacted After Bein Rescued:
After being rescued, the baby elephant moved towards the JCB machine and touched it with its trunk in an attempt to hug the machine.
As the video went viral, netizens praised the villagers for their efforts in rescuing the animal.
A similar incident took place in December last year when a baby elephant got trapped in a muddy pit in Raigatrh. The animal was later rescued.
