The decomposed body of a 24-year-old woman was recovered from a 10-feet-deep pit in a residential area of Haryana's Faridabad on Friday. The body was reportedly exhumed from the ditch using an excavator. The deceased has been identified as Tanu Rajput.
She was married to Arun, a resident of Roshan Nagar in Faridabad, almost two years ago. The police arrested four members of Tanu's in-laws' family - husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and another close relative, reported NDTV.
Tanu was reportedly missing two months ago. As per the media report, Tanu's body was recovered from a newly laid concrete section of a public lane next to the home where she lived with her husband.
As per neighbours, the area was dug up almost two months ago, the same time when Tanu went missing. Notably, construction work was carried out in the area for building a wastewater drain in the area.
Tanu's body was recovered at around 8:00 am on Friday. The body was sent for forensic examination to ascertain the cause of the death. Meanwhile, Tanu's sister Preeti alleged that the deceased was mentally and physically harassed after her marriage. She further accused Tanu's in-laws of demanding gold jewellery and money as dowry after her marriage in 2023.
On April 23, Tanu's in-laws told her family that she ran away. As per the report, the deceased's family members had been calling her since April 9, but they were unable to reach her. They even approached the police, but alleged that no action was taken.
Neighbours also told the police that Tanu's father-in-law dug up the pig in April under as he claimed that the drainage system was not proper. The pit was reportedly covered up quickly with a cement slab.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.
