Fact-Check: PIB Debunks False Claims Of 'Drone Attack' In Jalandhar And 'Strikes' On Hazira Port - Details

Amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan post Operation Sindoor, misinformation and false news are also on the rise from across the border. Several old videos are being shared by Pakistani social media handles with false claims.

A video is widely circulated on social media with a claim that Hazira Port in Gujarat was attacked. However, the Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) fact-checking debunked the false claim.

In an X post, the PIB fact-check team clarified that it was an old video of an oil tanker explosion on July 7, 2021. The PIB fact-check unit asked citizens not to share this video.

"This video is widely circulating on social media with a claim that Hazira Port in #Gujarat has been attacked. This is an unrelated video confirmed to depict an oil tanker explosion. The video is dated July 7, 2021. Do not share this video," the PIB fact check said in the X post.

Drone Attack In Jalandhar?

Similarly, unrelated video of a farm fire is being widely shared with false claim of 'drone attack in Jalandhar'.

"Drone Attack in Jalandhar? This drone strike video from #Jalandhar is widely circulating on social media. This is an unrelated video of a farm fire. The video has the time 7:39 PM, while the drone attack began later," said PIB fact-check in another X post.

On Thursday night, India shot down Pakistan Air Force's F-16 as well as two JF-17 aircraft after Pakistan tried to attack multiple locations in Jammu and Punjab, reported IANS, citing government sources.

Pakistan made attempts to target several locations in India; however, Indian air defence guns shot down the intruding drones.

India also shot down Pakistan's Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) inside its Punjab province, sources said, adding that it fell on their side. According to sources, the Indian SAM (Surface-to-air missile) shot down the F-16 fighter jet near the Sargodha air base. Pakistan's two JF-17s were also shot down by India.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army shot down more than 50 Pakistani drones during a large-scale counter-drone operation along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Borders (IB) on Thursday night.

"Yesterday night, when Pakistan made failed attempts to send swarm drones all across various places along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Borders (IB), over 50 drones were successfully neutralised during a large-scale counter-drone operation conducted by Indian Army Air Defence units in the areas of Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot areas," sources told ANI.

On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) to avenge the April 22 Pahalgan terror attack.
