New Delhi: In an escalation of events, more than 20 schools in the national capital have received bomb threats as of Friday morning (July 18), according to Delhi Police.
This comes after a spate of hoax e-mails that kept the authorities and families on edge for three consecutive days.
While the names of all affected schools today are yet to be confirmed, the latest round of threats follows a pattern. On Wednesday alone, five schools, including St Thomas School in Dwarka (which has received two threats in two days), Vasant Valley School in Vasant Kunj, Mother's International School in Hauz Khas, and Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar, received similar emails at intervals between 5:26 am and 8:12 am.
Earlier in the week, between Monday and Friday, eight other institutions had already been targeted, including the following:
1. CRPF Public School, Dwarka Sector 16
2. Navy Children School, Chanakyapuri
3. CRPF School, Rohini
4. Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Lodi Estate
5. Richmondd Global School, Paschim Vihar
6. Abhinav Public School, Rohini Sector 3
Security protocols were followed at each location. Teams from the Delhi Police, bomb disposal squads, dog units, and cyber experts conducted extensive searches on the campuses. School staff who had stayed overnight were immediately evacuated as a precaution.
What Did the Threat Letter Say?
According to the police the bomb threat letter read, "Hello. I am writing to let you know that I have placed several explosive devices (trinitrotoluene) within school classrooms. The explosives are skillfully hidden, in black plastic bags. I will erase every last one of you from this world. Not a single soul will survive. I will gladly laugh when I will watch the news, only to see the parents show up at the school and to be greeted by the cold, dismembered bodies of their children."
"You all deserve to suffer. I truly hate my life, I will commit suicide after the news, will slit my throat and slit my wrists. I was never truly helped, psychiatrists, psychologists, no one has ever cared and no one will ever care. You only care about medicating the helpless and clueless humans' psychiatrists never tell you that those meds ruin your organs or that they cause disgusting weight gain. You brainwash people into thinking psychiatric meds can help them. But they don't. I a living proof that they do not. You all deserve this. You deserve to suffer just like me," the letter added.
Not Just Schools, College Also Received Bomb Threats
On Tuesday, July 15, St Stephen’s College, a prestigious institution under Delhi University, also received a similar threat. An email received at 7:15 am claimed that four IEDs and two RDX packets were planted across the campus. A full inspection was conducted, and like previous instances, no suspicious object was found.
According to reports, no explosives have been found so far. However, the psychological toll of these repeated threats is undeniable, especially for students and school staff.
