New Delhi: A heated argument broke out between leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and police as they tried to enter the official residence of the Delhi Chief Minister. Police put up barricades and deployed heavy security outside the Delhi CM's residence. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and AAP MP Sanjay Singh entered into a heated exchange with police personnel.

Singh could be heard asked a police officer deployed outside the CM residence about the person who gave then directions to block the entry into the CM's house. The AAP MP also asked to call senior police officials. After the police denied entry in the CM residence, the AAP leaders moved towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence for protest.

The development came a day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the Delhi Assembly Elections.

Notably, the 6, Flagstaff Road, bungalow has sparked controversy over alleged irregularities in its renovation and costly fittings and household goods present in it.

The BJP has focussed a big part of its assembly election campaign around these allegations, dubbing the bungalow "Sheesh Mahal".

The saffron party's Delhi chief Virendra Sachdeva has claimed that valuable items, including a "golden commode", were missing after the bungalow was vacated by Kejriwal.

On Tuesday, AAP challenged the BJP to open the prime minister's residence for a media visit to reveal the reality while also offering to take reporters on a tour of the chief minister's residence.

In his election rally in Delhi's New Ashok Nagar on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also targeted Kejriwal over the money spent on the renovation of the Delhi CM's house.

"The country knows it well that Modi never built a home for himself but has built more than 4 crore houses for the poor... 'Mai bhi koi sheeshmahal bana sakta.." (I could have also built a palace for myself)'. I urge all of you, whenever you interact and meet with slum dwellers, to ensure to tell them on my behalf that they will definitely get pucca houses, if not today, then tomorrow," the PM had said.

The polls for 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 5 and the votes will be counted on February 8. The national capital territory will witness a fierce electoral battle between the AAP, the BJP and the Congress.
