Udhampur: In a tragic incident, At least three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and 15 injured when a vehicle carrying them skidded off the road and fell into a nallah in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Thursday. The incident took place around 10:30 am in the Kadwa area when the personnel were returning in a bunker vehicle from an operation from Basant Garh.
The vehicle belongs to the 187 battalion of the force. The vehicle was carrying 23 personnel. While two personnel died on the spot, 16 others were injured. They were evacuated to a hospital, where one more succumbed to injuries, taking the toll to three.
After receiving information, authorities rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. An ambulance was also present at the accident site. Locals are also assisting in the rescue operation. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.
"Two CRPF personnel died and 12 others were injured after a CRPF vehicle met with an accident near Kandva in the Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district. Police rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation, and shifted all injured persons to the nearby hospital for treatment," Additional SP Udhampur, Sandeep Bhat said earlier, as reported by ANI.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh spoke to Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai and took stock of the situation.
"Disturbing to receive the news of a road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. The vehicle was carrying several brave jawans of the CRPF," Singh said in an X post.
"I have just now spoken to DC Saloni Rai, who is personally monitoring the situation and keeping me updated. Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help being ensured," he added.
