COVID-19 Update: India Marks 7200 Active Cases; Death Toll Reaches 108 As 11 Patients Pass Away In Past 24 Hours

New Delhi:  India's current Covid-19 case total stands at 7,284 active cases with 97 additional cases confirmed in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare COVID-19 portal.

Total active COVID-19 cases in India as of June 16 stand at 7,264, with 11 new deaths reported by 8 am, raising the total death toll to 108 since January 2025. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) reported 119 new cases in the last 24 hours, with Kerala experiencing the highest number at 87 cases. Following Kerala, Maharashtra reported 38 cases, Uttar Pradesh 37, and Delhi 33. Other states with new cases include Rajasthan (30), Tamil Nadu (23), Karnataka (18), Gujarat and Haryana (8 each), Punjab (7), Andhra Pradesh (6), Manipur (5), with smaller numbers from Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Telangana, Puducherry, and Chhattisgarh. States that did not report any new cases include Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh (UT), Goa, Ladakh (UT), Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Mizoram, Bihar, and Tripura. Since January 2025, a total of 13,604 patients have been discharged, with 689 of those recoveries recorded until June 16. COVID-19 data from West Bengal is still pending.

The COVID-19 death toll in India has risen to 108 this year, with 11 new fatalities reported as of June 10. Kerala accounted for seven of these deaths, including individuals suffering from conditions such as pneumonia, septic shock, and acute leukemia alongside COVID-19. An 85-year-old man with leptospirosis and COVID-19 pneumonia was also among those lost in Kerala. Chhattisgarh reported the death of an 85-year-old man with chronic respiratory failure, while Delhi recorded a death of a 67-year-old man with lung cancer due to COVID-19 pneumonia.

Additionally, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra reported one death each, involving a 52-year-old woman with bronchial asthma and a 47-year-old man with cirrhosis. Kerala has the highest cumulative death count this year with 35, followed by Maharashtra (28), Delhi (12), and others. To prepare for potential surges in cases, the central government has implemented mock drills in hospitals nationwide, assessing crucial resources such as oxygen supplies, ventilators, and essential medicines.
