New Delhi: The Congress party found itself at the centre of controversy on Tuesday, April 29, after their social media post featuring a "missing" poster resembling Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral.

The poster drew backlash from both netizens and political leaders for its timing and messaging, especially following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people on April 22.

Former Pakistan Minister's Reaction

The controversy intensified after former Pakistani minister Fawad Chaudhry reshared the Congress post with the caption, “Had heard about missing horns from donkey’s head, but here Modi has gone missing,” adding the hashtag "Naughty Congress".

His involvement further stoked nationalist anger, with many accusing Congress of aligning with anti-India rhetoric. Have a look:

BJP Slams Congress, Calls It 'Muslim League 2.0'

In a sharp response, the BJP issued an official statement on their X handle, condemning the post and wrote, “Congress flaunts a headless kurta to echo the extremist 'Sar Tan Se Juda' slogan, exposing its continuous slide into Muslim League 2.0 — divisive, desperate, and directionless. Now that PM Shri @narendramodi has spoken the only language Pakistan understands, Islamabad’s official handles are parroting the same beheading cry, laying bare their jihadist creed.”

The statement added, “Let Pakistan and its fellow-travellers in @INCIndia threaten all they wish; New India will neither bend nor break. Terror will be met with bullets, not biryani. This is the era of decisive leadership.”

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also reacted to the viral graphic. In a statement given to PTI, he said the post reflected “two bodies with one mind," referring to Congress and Pakistan, and accused the opposition party of “echoing the voice of the ISI”.

Netizens Accuse Congress of 'Political Insensitivity'

Netizens accused the Congress party of politicising a national tragedy and employing imagery that allegedly echoes extremist undertones. Social media users linked the faceless attire to the provocative “Sar Tan Se Juda” (beheading) slogan, claiming it incited violence and disrespected the office of the PM.

Have a look at some other reactions here:

A user wrote on X, “Congress is making ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ images of PM Modi. This is exactly what their core ideology is about.” Another user said, “Attacking @PMOIndia in a time of crisis is not only below the belt but also shows your priorities.”
