Patna: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that the Election Commission (EC) after rigging polls in Maharashtra and Haryana was trying to do it again in Bihar but people of the state would not allow them to steal their votes as it would eventually steal their future, rights, employment and wealth too.

“EC should know that this is Bihar and people of Bihar will never allow the election body to steal the mandate in the state after doing the same thing in Maharashtra and Haryana,” Rahul, wearing his signature white T-shirt and carrying a red-covered copy of the constitution, remarked.

Rahul was speaking atop a vehicle against ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar after he along with other topnotch leaders of the INDIA bloc including RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, CPI (ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI general secretary D Raja, CPI (M) general secretary Mariam Alexander Baby and VIP leader Mukesh Sahani, and workers of the alliance were stopped near Shaheed Smarak. Police put barricades to stop the march which started from Income Tax Golambar to move further and reach the state election office as scheduled.

Sharpening his attack on the constitution, Rahul said, “In Maharashtra, the mandate was stolen, now in Bihar, time to exercise voting right - a new method, an old conspiracy. We will continue to expose these anti-constitutional forces - together with the people and the youth, we will give a befitting reply.”

Rahul said that INDIA bloc got majority of seats in Lok Sabha election in Maharashtra but after few months in the assembly election, INDIA bloc suffered a crushing defeat.

“When we collected and analysed data, we found that one crore additional voters were added to the electoral rolls in the assembly election, as 10 percent more voters cast their ballots in the Maharashtra poll. Wherever the number of voters increased in a constituency, BJP emerged victorious. Names of the poor voters were erased from the electoral rolls,” Congress leader alleged.

"When we asked the Election Commission to provide us Maharashtra`s voters’ list and videography recordings of the polling booths, they have not given us so far. They want to conceal the truth. I want to clearly say that the mandate was stolen in Maharashtra and now trying to do it in Bihar,” he added.

He said that INDIA bloc leaders had met the election commissioner in connection with the SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar and when he enquired from them, what was the response of the EC, they said that the election commissioner was speaking the language of BJP and RSS. The Election Commissioner has forgotten he is not a member of any party as his job is to safeguard the constitution, he stated, adding that he was free to do whatever he wanted to do but the law will catch up with him one day, he added.

Tejashwi said, "The Election Commission has become a puppet commission. With the Election Commission's support, the BJP government will first erase the names of the poor from the electoral rolls, and then end their ration, pension, and reservation, also snatching away their right to vote.

"Bihar is the birthplace of democracy. Biharis will not let this happen. Biharis may be poor, but they are aware, alert, and ready for struggle," he added.

Congress leader Kanyaya Kumar was reportedly stopped by the security guards from embarking upon the vehicle carrying senior INDIA leaders including Rahul and Tejashwi.
