Raipur: The budget session of the Chhattisgarh Assembly saw intense discussions on Friday over alleged irregularities in the Chhattisgarh Medical Services Corporation Limited (CGMSC). During the Question Hour, BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar questioned the government about discrepancies in the supply of medical reagents and equipment. In response, Health Minister Shyambihari Jaiswal stated that the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) was investigating 15 officials involved in the case.
Jaiswal revealed that despite a budget allocation of ₹120 crore for equipment purchases in 2024-25, expenditures had surged to ₹385 crore. Following departmental inquiries, the matter was handed over to the EOW, which is now taking necessary action. Chandrakar demanded clarity on the unauthorized spending and accountability of those responsible. The minister assured that the investigation report had been sought and necessary steps were being taken.
Further questioning the minister, Chandrakar asked if Makshy Corporation was involved in the irregularities. Jaiswal admitted that supplies were made without demand and at inflated prices. He confirmed that the supplier had been jailed and the investigation was ongoing.
During a heated exchange, Chandrakar insisted on direct answers, accusing the minister of evading questions. Jaiswal defended his position, stating that while the government was committed to strict action, decisions regarding officials rested with EOW. The debate lasted nearly ten minutes, with Chandrakar demanding names of those responsible.
He also questioned why equipment was purchased at exorbitant rates despite a lack of funds. Jaiswal acknowledged the gravity of the scam but said revealing further details was premature due to the ongoing probe. Former Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh intervened, urging Chandrakar to be patient and allow the minister to complete his response.
