BRS MLC K Kavitha was rushed to Deendayal Upadhyay Hospital in New Delhi on Tuesday after collapsing in Tihar Jail.
Kavitha had been incarcerated in Tihar Jail following her arrest in connection with the Delhi liquor scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested her on March 15, 2024, from her residence in Banjara Hills and subsequently placed her in custody. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) later arrested her on April 11, 2024.
Kavitha, who served as a Lok Sabha member from Nizamabad from 2014 to 2019, is currently a member of the state legislative council. According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), she is accused of conspiring with top leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including its convenor Kejriwal and then Deputy CM and Minister of Excise, Manish Sisodia, allegedly providing them with a Rs 100 crore bribe.
In return, Kavitha and other members of the 'South Group' or 'South Lobby' purportedly received undue advantages in the formulation and execution of Delhi's excise policy, resulting in profits of Rs 192.8 crore, as per ED claims.
