Srinagar: In a major breakthrough for security forces, suspected terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack were reportedly killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar by security forces, reported India Today. Notably, an encounter broke out between the security personnel and the terrorists in the Lidwas area of Srinagar under Indian Army's 'Operation Mahadev' on Monday morning.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police after receiving a credible inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. The Indian Army's Chinar Corps also confirmed that three terrorists were neutralised in the encounter.
"Three terrorist have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation Continues," the China Corps said in an X post.
Slain terrorists were reportedly affiliated to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Combing operations are currently underway in the area.
The identity of the terrorists is yet to be ascertained. Drone footage showed bodies of the terrorists.
The development came on the day when a debate on Operation Operation Sindoor is scheduled in Parliament during its monsoon session. The Opposition leaders are targeting the Centre for not being able to capture the terrorists who carried out the attack, claiming the lives of 26 innocent people.
On April 22, five to six Pakistan-backed terrorists opened fire on people enjoying their vacations at Baisaran meadow near Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam killing 26 people. Among the deceased was also a Nepali citizen.
On the intervening night of May 6 and 7, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor and destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Pakistan tried to attack Indian civilian and military installations. However, India's air defence thwarted the attack. On the intervening night of May 9 and 10, India hit 11 Pakistani air bases.
