Assam Government To Probe Zubeen Garg's Death, Multiple FIRs Filed Against Event Organiser, Singer's Manager

The Assam government will probe the death of Singer Zubeen Garg's death.

Guwahati: The Assam government will probe the death of Singer Zubeen Garg's death. The state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said his government would conduct an inquiry into singer Zubeen Garg's death.

An FIR has been lodged against North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and the singer's manager Siddhartha Sharma at Morigaon police station.

"Assam Police will probe the death of Zubeen Garg and both Mahanta and Sharma, along with those who were present with the singer in his last moments, will be interrogated," Sarma told reporters.

In an X post Sarma also said that he had directed the Assam Police to transfer all FIR to the Central Investigatiopn Department (CID).

"Multiple FIRs have been filed against Shri Syamkanu Mahanta and Shri Sidharth Sarma in connection with the unfortunate and untimely demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. I have directed the @DGPAssamPolice to transfer all the FIRs to the CID and to register a consolidated case for a thorough investigation," the Assam CM said.

Reports also surfaced that the singer was taken to a party the night before his death.

Garg died in Singapore on Friday, while "swimming in the sea without a life jacket".

As per the Assam CM, Singaporean authorities have also started their investigation, "as the place of occurrence is not India. He said that the Assam government will probe if the singer was taken from Assam with a wrong intent.

Garg died at the age of 52 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore. He had to perform at the North East Festival in Singapore on September 20. According to reports, Garg was pulled out of the sea by Singapore police and rushed to a nearby hospital. However, he could not survive.

Garg's last video, which surfaced online after his death, showed him jumping into the sea while wearing a life jacket.

However, he allegedly returned to the boat, removed his life jacket, and jumped in again.
