Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday addressed an event at National PG College in Lucknow, in the event he highlighted the global interest in India’s BrahMos missile system. Referring to its recent role in “Operation Sindoor,” Singh stated that the missile which is manufactured in Lucknow has caught the attention of at least 15 countries.
Singh, who is also MP from Lucknow, emphasised that with its proven effectiveness, the BrahMos missile has become a symbol of India’s growing defence capabilities. He also added that international supply of the missile from Lucknow will soon begin, underlining the cities role in bolstering India’s strategic influence. The Defence Minister also participated in the 124th birth anniversary celebration of former Chief Minister and freedom fighter Chandrabhanu Gupta. He released a commemorative postal stamp in his honour.
The event also included the inauguration of a newly constructed auditorium at the Motilal Society along with former CM's statue.During the ceremony, Singh recounted an anecdote from his early political days, recalling how Gupta had once supported him financially during an election campaign with a Rs 5,000 contribution, a significant amount at the time.
Singh praised Gupta’s dedication to public service, describing him as a leader shaped by the freedom movement. He said Gupta viewed power not as a position of privilege, but as a platform for service. On the sidelines of the event, Singh met with various social and business figures in the city, including trader leader Sandeep Bansal and social worker Vidyasagar Gupta. A large number of students, teachers, and members of the public were present at the ceremony. Dignitaries at the event included Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak and several MPs and state leaders, paying tribute to Gupta’s legacy as a freedom fighter and administrator.
