Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday claimed that his name is not in the draft voter list released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday, August 1. While speaking to reporters, Yadav said that even after entering his EPIC number, he was not able to find any record. However, the EC refuted his allegations. the poll body released the Yadav's details.

The RJD leader alleged that around 20 to 30 thousand names have been removed by the poll body from the voters' list in every assembly constituency. He even demonstrated to reporters that no records were found when he entered his EPIC number on the EC website.

"Almost 20 to 30 thousand names have been removed from every assembly constituency. A total of around 65 lakh, meaning about 8.5% of voters' names, have been removed from the list. Whenever the Election Commission issued an advertisement, it used to mention that so many people have shifted, so many people are deceased, and so many people had duplicate names," Yadav said.

"But in the list provided to us by the Election Commission, they have cleverly not given the address of any voter, no booth number, and no EPIC number, so that we cannot find out whose names have been removed from the voter list," he added.

The RJD leader also questioned the poll body on how he would contest the upcoming assembly election in Bihar, as his details were not showing in the list shared by the EC.

"My name is not there in the electoral roll. How will I contest the elections?" Yadav asked.

Responding to Yadav's claims, the EC called them "mischievous" and "incorrect". The poll body said that the RJD leader's name is listed at Serial Number 416 in the Draft Electoral Roll.

"It has come to our attention that Tejashwi Yadav has made a mischievous claim that his name does not appear in the draft electoral roll. His name is listed at Serial Number 416 in the Draft Electoral Roll. Therefore, any claim stating that his name is not included in the draft electoral roll is false and factually incorrect," the ECI said.

The ECI on Friday released the draft voter list for Bihar, following a month-long special intensive revision (SIR) process. The EC said the public has one month to submit claims and objections, assuring that "no name will be removed from the draft voter list without a stated reason."

"The draft voter list has been released today in Bihar. One-month period for claims and objections begins; draft list shared with political parties. Still a full one month to get names added. No name will be removed from the draft voter list without a stated reason," the Commission stated in a statement on X.

The assembly election in Bihar are scheduled to take place later this year.
