Srinagar: In a big breakthrough, the security forces on Monday reportedly neutralised Pahalgam terror attack mastermind Hashim Musa in an encounter in Lidwas of Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar. Musa was among the three terrorists killed in the Indian Army's Operation Mahadev.
The Indian Army also confirmed that the three terrorists were killed in the encounter. However, the force did not reveal the identity of the slain terrorists. “Three terrorists have been neutralised in an intense firefight. Operation continues," the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps posted on X.
On Monday morning, the operation was carried out jointly by the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police after receiving a credible inputs about the presence of the terrorists in the Dachigm area.
The identification of other two terrorists is yet to be ascertained. Drone footage showed bodies of the terrorists.
The development came on the day when a debate on Operation Operation Sindoor is taking place in Parliament during the monsoon session. The Opposition leaders were targeting the Centre for not being able to capture the terrorists who carried out the attack, claiming the lives of 26 innocent people.
Who Was Hashim Musa?
Suleiman, also know as Hashim Musa or Musa Fauji, was a Pakistani national. According to reports, he was a former para commando of the Pakistan Army's special force. After leaving the Pakistani Army, he reportedly joined the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). He was responsible for carrying out attacks on non-locals and security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir.
Operation Sindoor:
On April 22, five to six Pakistan-backed terrorists opened fire on tourists at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam killing 26 people. In response to the terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). When Pakistan tried to attack Indian civilian and military installations in retaliation, India's air defence thwarted the attack. On the intervening night of May 9 and 10, India also hit 11 Pakistani air bases.
