Bengaluru: In a first for Bengaluru’s Namma Metro, the metro successfully facilitated the transportation of a donated human liver via a metro train on Friday, 1 August. The organ was transported from Whitefield Metro Station to Rajarajeshwarinagar Metro Station on the Mysuru Road line for transplantation. Officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said the operation was executed with clockwork precision.
The organ was safely transported by ambulance from Vydehi Hospital to Whitefield Metro Station, accompanied by a doctor and seven medical staff. The metro journey began at 8:42 pm and concluded at 9:48 pm, with metro staff ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted transit.
Metro staff along with an Assistant Security Officer (ASO), coordinated the security checks and documentation before the medical team boarded the train.
Patient Had Been On The Waiting List For Over Two Months
The operation took place at Sparsh hospital on Friday evening, when a liver retrieved from a 24-year-old accident victim was urgently required for a patient suffering from severe hepatitis-related liver failure. The recipient had been on the waiting list for more than two months.
