Barabanki Shocker: Woman Ends Life With 2 Young Sons By Jumping Into Gomti River; Police Probe Dowry Harassment Allegations

Barabanki: Mithilesh Kumari Yadav, ended her life along with her two young sons by jumping into the Gomti River from the Ausaneshwar bridge in Barabanki. Before the act, she placed her jewellery and mobile phone on the bridge and first threw her elder son into the river, then jumped in holding her other son.

Bodies Recovered After 18 Hours

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered the bodies about 18 hours later on Thursday morning. The younger child’s body was found 10 km downstream, while the mother and elder son’s bodies were located about 100 metres from the bridge.

Suicide Note Alleging Harassment

Police recovered a suicide note in which the woman accused her in-laws and second husband of harassing her for dowry and threatening to kill her. Her first husband had died a year earlier, after which she married his younger brother three months ago.

The note alleged that the family had taken money from her and forced her out of the house. Local witnesses claimed no officials visited the scene for 16 hours after the incident.

Investigation Underway

Heavy rain had made the river’s current strong, complicating recovery efforts. Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations mentioned in the suicide note.
