Guwahati, June 14: Following Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s ‘shoot at sight’ directive in communally sensitive Dhubri, district police have arrested 38 individuals identified as anti-social elements since Friday.
In a major administrative reshuffle on Friday evening, Dhubri SSP Navin Singh was transferred to CID Assam as Senior Superintendent of Police (Organised Crime), replacing Amitava Sinha. Meanwhile, Leena Doley, who previously served as SSP of Hailakandi, has been appointed the new SSP of Dhubri.
The arrests were made in connection with back-to-back communal provocations, including the dumping of cow heads in front of a Hanuman temple, among other criminal incidents that escalated communal tension in the area.
Chief Minister Sarma visited Dhubri on Friday to review the law-and-order situation. During his visit, he warned that individuals with non-bailable charges or criminal histories would be apprehended without delay.

Security in the district has since been significantly intensified, with Rapid Action Force (RAF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) units deployed to prevent further unrest.
The developments follow a series of communal flashpoints since Bakri Eid, including stone pelting incidents and the appearance of alleged pro-Bangladeshi posters, which have further stoked tensions in the border district.
