Allahabad HC Dismisses Abdullah Azam’s Pleas In Fake Passport, Dual PAN Card Cases; Trials To Proceed In Rampur MP-MLA Court

Samajwadi Party leader and former MLA Abdullah Azam faced a legal setback as the Allahabad High Court dismissed two petitions filed by him in connection with a fake passport and dual PAN card case. The court had reserved its verdict on July 1 after hearing both sides and delivered the judgment on Wednesday.

The trial in both cases will now proceed in the MP-MLA court in Rampur.

Abdullah Azam had sought to quash proceedings in two separate cases one where he is involved in obtaining a passport using incorrect birth details, and the other related to possessing two PAN cards. Both complaints were filed by BJP MLA Akash Saxena.

In the passport case, Saxena had filed an FIR in July 2019 under IPC sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and Section 12(1A) of the Indian Passport Act, 1920, alleging discrepancies in Abdullah’s birth date September 30, 1990 on his passport, and January 1, 1993 in educational documents.

The PAN card case stemmed from an alleged mismatch in PAN numbers submitted during the 2017 Assembly elections.

The High Court found no grounds to halt the proceedings.

Both trials will now continue in Rampur district’s MP-MLA court as per legal procedure.
