New Delhi: Air India has cancelled eight flights including four international and four domestic, scheduled to take off on Friday, June 20, citing “enhanced maintenance and operational reasons.”
The development comes just days after the airline faced backlash for last-minute cancellations and delays, reportedly linked to heightened safety checks following the devastating June 12 Ahmedabad crash which claimed over 270 lives.
Here are key details of the flights cancelled by the airline today:
International Flights Cancelled on June 20
The following international routes have been called off, as per a report by ANI:
AI906 – Dubai to Chennai
AI308 – Delhi to Melbourne
AI309 – Melbourne to Delhi
AI2204 – Dubai to Hyderabad
While no further explanation was provided for the disruptions, the cancellations appear linked to the airline’s ongoing technical audits and maintenance protocols.
Domestic Flights Cancelled on June 20
Four domestic flights were also grounded:
AI874 – Pune to Delhi
AI456 – Ahmedabad to Delhi
AI2872 – Hyderabad to Mumbai
AI571 – Chennai to Mumbai
Air India has requested passengers to check their flight status on the airline’s website or mobile app before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience.
This follows a similar wave of cancellations on Wednesday, when three international flights were scrapped, two of them after passengers had already boarded. In a previous statement, the airline said, “Air India regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers due to these cancellations. Affected customers are being offered full refunds or the option to reschedule their travel at no additional cost.”
Since the Ahmedabad crash on June 12, the airline has reportedly seen a surge in last-minute disruptions, including aircraft being grounded mid-flight due to detected snags. To manage safety inspections more effectively, Air India has reduced its wide-body international operations by about 15% from June 20 until mid-July.
