Lucknow: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revoked the recognition of 115 registered but unrecognized political parties in Uttar Pradesh. This significant action follows an investigation that found these parties had not contested any elections between 2019 and 2024.
Furthermore, during the inquiry, their registered office addresses were found to be non-existent. These parties are among a total of 132 in Uttar Pradesh whose details the ECI has removed from its list.
The action is part of a larger nationwide drive by the ECI to delist and derecognize non-compliant political parties that exist on paper but are not politically active.
This move aims to clean up the political landscape and ensure that only genuinely active parties are on the commission's records.
