‘They Would Zoom Into…’: Malavika Mohanan Opens Up About Actresses’ ‘Navel Obsession’ In South

Malavika Mohanan has worked in Hindi as well as the South film industry. The actress has been a part of movies like Pattam Pole (Malayalam), Naanu Mattu Varalakshmi (Kannada), Beyond The Clouds (Hindi), Master (Tamil), Thangalaan (Tamil) and more. Recently, in an interview, she spoke about actresses’ ‘navel obsession’ in South region. She revealed that she was initially very confused about it as she has grown up in Mumbai.

In an interview with Hauterrfly, when Malavika was asked if navel obsession is a truth of South region, the actress laughed and said, “I used to be very perplexed earlier too, because I have grown up in Mumbai. It was a completely new phenomenon that navels are obsessed over so much. And then you would see pictures on social media of these actresses, where they would zoom into their navels. So, yeah, navel obsession is a very real thing.”

Malavika Mohanan On Body Shaming 

Malavika also revealed how she was trolled for being skinny. She said, “When I did my first film, Pattam Pole, I was trolled so much for being really skinny. I got trolled so badly, and it was harsh. I was called things like ‘skin on bones’, ‘go gain some weight’. These are still polite things, there was a lot of degrading language as well. At that point, it really affected me.”

Malavika Mohanan Upcoming Movies 

Malavika is all set to make her Telugu debut with the film The Raja Saab which stars Prabhas in the lead role. It is one of the most awaited films of the year, and the horror-comedy will get a pan-India release. The Raja Saab was slated to release on April 10, 2025. But it has been postponed. New release date is not yet been announced. The actress will also be seen in Tamil movie Sardar 2 and Malayalam film Hridayapoorvam.
