Tanvi The Great Review: Anupam Kher is one of the best actors we have in the Indian film industry. In 2002, he made his directorial debut with the film Om Jai Jagadish, which starred Waheeda Rehman, Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, and Mahima Chaudhry. Now, after 23 years, the actor has once again donned the director's hat, and his film Tanvi The Great has hit the big screens today (July 18, 2025). So, is the movie worth your time and money? Read on to know that...
The movie is about Tanvi (Shubhangi Dutt), an autistic girl, who is staying in Delhi with her mother, Vidya (Pallavi Joshi), who is a doctor. Her father, who was an Army officer, passed away when she was 7 years old. Vidya has to fly to the US to work for the World Autism Foundation, so now Tanvi has to stay with her grandfather, Pratap (Anupam Kher), a retired Indian Army officer. While Tanvi starts staying with her grandfather in the Army Cantt in Lansdowne, she develops an interest in joining the Indian Army. So, can an autistic girl be a part of the Indian Army? Will Tanvi be able to fulfil her dreams?
Tanvi The Great is written and directed by Anupam Kher. The story of the film is very new, something that we haven't seen in Bollywood before. However, the narration is not up to the mark. The pace of the movie in the first half is slow, and there are just a few heart-warming scenes.
After the interval, the film becomes a bit better, but it is a bumpy ride. While some scenes are exciting, some fail to keep us hooked to the screen. Also, the climax fails to connect with us emotionally.
But Keiko Nakahara deserves a special mention because the cinematography is wonderful. Visually, it is a very beautiful film.
Tanvi The Great Review - Actors' Performance
Tanvi The Great marks the debut of Shubhangi Dutt, and she has done a fantastic job in the movie. Undoubtedly, one of the best debuts in the past few years. Of course, the credit also goes to Anupam Kher for getting the best out of her.
Kher, who plays the role of Tanvi's grandfather, as usual, has nailed it. Pallavi Joshi as Tanvi's mother also leaves a strong mark, and Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, and Arvind Swami are good in their respective roles. Karan Tacker looks very handsome in the film, and he has played his part well.
Tanvi The Great Review - Music
The music of the film, composed by M. M. Keeravani, is strictly average. There are no songs that will stay with you once the film is over.
Tanvi The Great Review - Final Verdict
Overall, Tanvi The Great had the potential to be a great film, as the basic storyline is very new and fresh. But, it is just good in bits and parts because of its average narration.
